Noosa & Surrounds

Noosa's
Beautiful Beaches
Noosa's Main Beach

Australia has the best beaches in the world...and Noosa has the best beaches in Australia!
Noosa has such a choice of nearby beaches:

- the virgin stretch of 65 kilometre North Shore Beach bordered by the Cooloola National Park;
-
the very social Main Beach just metres from Hastings Street (pictured above);
-
the Noosa Woods and Noosa Spit Beaches;
- picturesque Little Cove Beach right next to town;
- Sunshine's roaring open surf beach;
- Noosaville's idyllic calm, sandy river Beaches
…and the best series of point break surfing waves in Australia - National Park, Tea Tree and Granite Bays.

Just a half hour stroll from Hastings Street takes you from lively Main Beach, favourite for families and children, past the protected National Park beaches to the often deserted Alexandria Bay where the Pacific Ocean unleashes her full power.

Watching the spectacular waves rolling in while standing on the wide golden sands of Alexandria Bay, the wind in your face, the unspoilt bushland behind you, is a uniquely Australian experience that makes you appreciate the rare beauty thankfully preserved here in Noosa.

Noosa National Park

Noosa National Park

Noosa is home to Australia's most visited National Park. A network of coastal walking tracks link picturesque surfing beaches, backed by tranquil rainforest and classic Australian bush. Preserved in it's natural state since 1879, we thank the early settlers who recognised its beauty. Only minutes walk from the centre of Noosa Heads the park is a haven for koalas and birdlife, so take a camera with you. The beaches offer excellent fishing and the swimming spots are protected from any prevailing south easterlies.

Sitting on the beach, everything you see is natural. The only thing man made might be the occasional yacht sailing by. With almost 500 hectares of rainforest, beaches wallum shrub and grasslands, you could happily explore here for weeks...an experience quite different from that of many over-developed beach resorts.

Surfing is world famous at Noosa's National Park. During summers' swell season, surfers arrive from all over Australia and the world, to enjoy Noosa's classic point breaks. Learners do best at Main Beach or First Point for the more advanced. The outside bays are for experienced surfers who enjoy long exciting waves in a natural environment.

Bushwalking can offer glimpses of koalas, kangaroos, scrub turkeys and wild goannas. Explore the fascinating rock pools at low tide, or trek inland to escape the heat of the day in the shaded Palm Groves.

Noosa River and Lakes

Sunset in Noosaville

The natural, pollution-free state of the Noosa River and Lakes system flowing through the Cooloola National Park is one of Noosa's greatest treasures.

Luxurious houseboats, colourful catamarans, sailboards, jet skis, cruisers, canoes and paddleskis can all be rented along the Noosaville riverfront. Enjoy a fun family day out on a Bar-b-que Pontoon, or perhaps you would prefer the comfort of a professionally guided tour complete with gourmet lunch. Cruise along the river through Lake Cooroibah into Queensland's largest natural lake - Lake Cootharaba. Discover the Kinaba Waterbird Sanctuary where you can see egrets, darters, yellow-tailed black cockatoos, white-cheeked honeyeaters, pelicans, cormorants, ibis, blue cranes and the majestic osprey eagles.

The Noosa Everglades are alive with fish and birds. During Spring the whole area blossoms to life with wildflowers. The naturally black water makes for excellent double reflection photographs.

The North Shore and Coloured Sands

Lighthouse on Double Island Point

Noosa's North Shore is one of the last areas of untouched wilderness on Australia's eastern seaboard.
Access is via the Tewantin River Ferry. The wide flat beach is a designated road, but it's serious four-wheel-drive territory.

The drive north along the beach at low tide....is an awe-inspiring experience, with the Pacific surf to your east and the colourful sand cliffs and rugged wilderness of the Cooloola National Park to the west. Stretching over 65 kilometres, the deserted beach takes you to the Teewah Coloured Sands, the Bubbling Springs, the rusting wreck of the ‘Cherry Venture', freshwater lakes, ancient rainforests and the lonely lighthouse on Double Island Point. Further north is the spectacular sheltered curve of Rainbow Bay where dolphins are often seen. Climb to the lighthouse during the whale watching season for a sight to remember!

Whale Watching, Dolphins
&
The Great Barrier Reef

Whale Watching

Noosa is the northern-most surf beach resort in Australia just at the beginning of the Great Barrier Reef. Day trips to Lady Elliott Island take you to the Coral Wonders of the Reef where the spectacular marine life will amaze you.

The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park is now protected as a World Heritage Area for future generations to enjoy and you can visit it easily from Noosa. You don't need to go to the Reef to see the dolphins frolicking in the waves—they're right here off Noosa's Main Beach most every day - surfers regularly see pods of friendly dolphins and solitary old turtles throughout the National Park and at Sunshine Beach.

Whales are regularly spotted as they head north to warmer waters to breed and again on their return journey.

Fraser Island
- the world's largest sand island

Fraser Island

There is a special magic to be found on Fraser Island and it's easily reached in a day trip from Noosa.

The World's Largest Sand Island is a natural treasure of crystal clear fresh-water lakes and ancient dense rainforests. Extensive beaches, coloured sand cliffs, rocky headlands, scenic creeks and a wide diversity of plant and wild-life make Fraser Island truly unique.

Some camping tours out of Noosa take five-day safaris for an extensive look into the wonders of the island. Things like prehistoric ferns, the oldest vegetation known to man, wild brumbie and dingoes, the wreck of the “Maheno”, the spectacular beach at Indian Head and the enchanting Lake Wabby, perched high in a sand mass. Scuba divers can explore the wreck of the “Marloo”, a luxurious Italian yacht beached in 1914.

A visit to Fraser Island is a must for everyone, at least once in a lifetime.

And where better to begin...than Noosa.

There is so much on offer here whether you stay a little while...or a lifetime.

Take your time...consider Noosa for your next holiday….or your next home.
